The Golden Rule of Regifting

At some point in our lives, we’ve all gotten gifts that we either didn’t want or had zero use for.

To throw the gift away would be a waste. You could donate it to Good Will, but lately, it seems the more popular option is to “regift” it.

To be honest, I don’t have a problem with regifting. In fact, I’d be lying if I told you I’ve never regifted.

But there are a few rules that should be followed.

A couple of days ago, my daughter received a gift from a relative that was an obvious regift.

How did we know?

The old gift tag was still on it with the person who gave the gift and my relative’s name on the “to and from”

They did try to scratch those names off with some kind of a dull instrument and wrote my daughter’s name and their name in the appointed places, but the effort was minimal at best.

If you’re going to regift, put a little effort into it! Make it your own!

This reminds me of a real estate “guru” who had swiped one of my probate courses and direct sales letters and sold them as his own.

The training content was word for word the same as mine. And he even forgot to remove my name and address from the bottom of the sample letters!

One thing he couldn’t copy was my years of probate real estate knowledge and experience. Information is just information. The power of information is having someone holding your hand, helping you use that information to transform your life.

Here’s the lesson in all of this – always be YOU.

There are a lot of great ads, postcards, letters, Facebook campaigns out there trying to get people to sell you their houses.

There’s nothing wrong with using them as inspiration. Just don’t flat-out copy them.

Rewrite them infusing your personality, values, and language into the marketing pieces.

Be true to who you are and have that shine through your marketing.

The good Lord rewards honesty and hard work.
