Snippets of wisdom can come in all forms. Some people like Confucius. Me? I’m more of a Mark Twain kind of guy. The housing market has been taking a dive. It hasn’t jumped off the rails yet, but its current state has a lot of people worried. There’s a particular Mark Twain quote that I think sheds a lot of light on our current situation and how you need to approach the market. He said, “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog.” The is no such thing as an easy button, but the last couple of years were probably as close to an easy button as we’ll ever get. That’s why everyone and their brother have been getting into real estate. But now that the market has shifted, most of them are running scared with their tails between their legs. Real estate, especially probate, is a simple business. But that doesn’t mean it’s gonna be easy. Nobody is going to deliver you deals on a silver platter. You’ve gotta want the success and be willing to fight for it. Last week during my free open mic Probate Essentials Q&A call, this problem was presented – a seller’s house is in foreclosure, but the foreclosure date set by the bank is BEFORE the probate court date. This is a sticky situation. So how would you work around this one? We talked about the options they have to save the house from being foreclosed on before the court date. The strategies we came up with might work, but then again, they might not. Twain helps us realize that saving this deal and getting it under contract is really irrelevant. What matters is your behavior – not just with this deal, but with every deal you work. How much fight do you have in you? Will the next NO you get cold calling make you walk away with your tail between your legs too? Will missing out on a foreclosure you can’t save have you filling out applications for a day job? Not everyone is cut out for this kind of life. Give up and you might just be able to piece together a comfortable “ordinary” life. But if that fight inside you is big enough, if you push through and stick with it, you’ll discover a life of financial and personal freedom that those ordinary people can only dream of. Be more. Be extraordinary. To your success, Ernie “Big Dog” Vargas | The Probate Fox |
