I try to avoid watching the evening news. Most of it is incredibly negative and I haven’t been able to find a source that isn’t trying to shove their own narrative down my throat.
But I also believe that I’d be neglecting my duty as a responsible American citizen to just bury my head in the sand.
So I do pay attention to a variety of news sources and take the extra effort to come to my own conclusions. Maybe I shouldn’t have said that – we’re not supposed to think for ourselves anymore, right?
I did notice on the news lately that there have been a bunch of brazen, daylight looting (I’m not sure if it’s PC to use the word looting anymore?) taking place at high end department stores across the country.
Earlier this week in Chicago, thieves got away with over 100k worth of Louis Vuitton merch. And everyone just stood there watching it happen!
It’s just too bad these determined thieves didn’t accidentally loot the local library just a couple of doors down the block. They could have really hit the jackpot with all the knowledge there.
American society, as a whole, values little more than immediate gratification. And what’s worse is people feel entitled to the rotten fruits of their nefarious activities.
If only they would put that same energy and determination into reading books and acquiring knowledge that will allow them to generate their own wealth, instead of stealing it from others.
It’s like the old adage – teach a man to fish…
