This past Friday I spent the afternoon with one of my Probate Fox coaching groups at a beach house in Laguna beach. Zoom meetings are ok, but there’s something special about getting together in person. The house we met at belongs to Mitch Albom. Well, it’s not really a house. It’s a beautiful four-story estate right on the ocean. Mitch is best known for his novel “Tuesdays With Morrie” and the amazing movies made from his books. We all had a great time catching up and sharing probate stories. But the best part was when I cut their ties. Let me explain. Decades ago before I discovered my gift for real estate, I worked for a short time as a salesman on a car lot. There’s a tradition that when you make your first car sale, the sales manager cuts your tie. It’s a right of passage that I worked my butt off to achieve. A bunch of my students reached their goal and closed their first probate deal so we stepped out on the balcony overlooking the ocean and I cut their Probate Fox ties. I love the Probate Fox tie-cutting ceremony. It reminds me of my first deal in real estate. I was as broke as you could be and Kathy was home with our daughter Christina who was a newborn at the time. I was completely clueless, but I had an amazing coach. He told me to set a goal and make it a reality. The goal I set was to get my first deal in 2 weeks. Looking back, I realize how crazy that goal was, but I was hungry for success and I wouldn’t let anything stop me. And right at the end of my two weeks, I landed my very first deal and made over 158k. Back then I didn’t have anyone to cut my tie. That’s why it’s so special that I get to cut my student’s ties when they reach their goal and experience that same success. To your success, Ernie “Cutting Ties” Vargas | The Probate Fox |
