I love Utah. It’s a beautiful state and one of my favorite places to visit. The small towns, rugged hikes, and breathtaking scenery always make me want to come back for more. And it just so happens I’m back in Utah as we speak! But I’m not here on vacation. This week I’m meeting up with a small group of high level real estate investing thought leaders from around the country. As we were talking this morning, the topic of student success came up. What we all agreed upon was that success begins between the ears of the student. It’s all about mindset. And this wasn’t just the experience I’ve had with my students. Everyone else in the room had pretty much the same experience with their students too. People want an easy button. They want the latest tactic, gadget, software, or strategy that will make them a millionaire. But it just doesn’t work that way. Sure you need a killer strategy, but if you don’t have your mindset right, it’s useless. We all shared the different challenges our students face. And there are two (and only two) results from facing these challenges. You’ll either push through and succeed, or give up on your dreams. Some people think that these two results are defined by the type of person you are. They’ll say that Person A will push through while Person B will give up. I think that’s complete crap. How do I know? Because I’ve helped hundreds of people push beyond what they thought they were capable of so they could live the life they never dreamed possible. Success isn’t part of your DNA. It’s a result of the decisions you make. And those decisions are heavily swayed by the company you keep. Surround yourself with people who will encourage you to push past those seemingly impassible barriers and ditch people who help you justify failure.
