The Lesson Rapper Puff Daddy Taught Me Back in 1997

In 1997, Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs came out with the song “It’s All About The Benjamins”.

In an effort to keep my pride intact, I’m not going to tell you how old I was back then. We didn’t have iPhones or mp3 players in 1997. The radio was our “streaming station” and every time I heard it on the radio, I remember feeling a bit off.

Why didn’t I like that song?

The answer is simple – it’s SHOULDN’T be all about the Benjamins.

As much as I enjoy the success I’ve found in real estate, I know there are more important things than the almighty dollar.

Even way back then, when I was a young buck in my 20’s and way before I got my start in real estate, I know it was about more than just money.

Sure, closing multiple deals a week is pretty awesome. But there is always a price to be paid and the currency is usually time.

Remember to slow down once in a while. We should work to live, not live to work.

Sometimes just closing one or two deals a month is worth the trade-off of the memories you can create with family and friends.

I know I usually bring everything back to probate, but that’s because it’s been such a blessing in my life. The ability to find motivated sellers in an overwhelming sea of prospects has allowed me to spend less time working and more time living.

Take some time and enjoy your weekend!
