Michael’s Unfulfilled Dreams

Yesterday, I took my mother shoe shopping to her favorite store which is SAS. (San Antonio Shoes).

We’ve been going to this store for years and the sales man who helped us has been our shoe salesman since I was a young boy.

Michael is the most kind-hearted man that sells shoes and he does such a great job at it.

But as life happens to all of us, with age comes a tired body and the inability to do the things that we once did at the same capacity.

Michael can barely walk now and seems to be more tired than I’ve ever seen him. There is nothing wrong with that, as that is part of life but here is something that’s bad and breaks my heart.

Every single year for mom’s annual shoe shopping visit, Michael would express to me with such excitement how he was going to get into the business of real estate and even be able to purchase his own house one day.

He enjoyed selling shoes and he enjoyed being of service to people but he really had a heart to get into real estate as that had been his long life dream.

Every year I would take my mother for her annual shoe shopping and with such excitement Michael would greet me and he would ask me with such a big smile on his face, “How is your real estate business going? How’s the market?”

I would share with him the great news and opportunities and invite him to join me. His response…”Oh, I’m not ready yet but pretty soon I will be.”

Just like he did the year before, he would take down my phone number and promised to call me.

Well, here we are 20 something years later and Michael told me the same thing yesterday, “How is the market, how is the business?”

He shared with me how he is hardly able to walk now and how he is more tired than he’s ever been.

Michael said, “Maybe one of these days I’ll be able to get into the business, but I don’t know anymore I probably should have done it sooner when you told me.”

I share this with you because I see that too many of us have dreams that we don’t pursue.

For whatever reason many people hold back.

Whether the timing isn’t right, the kids are too young, or maybe the mind is whispering words of doubt.

Whatever it may be, I want to encourage you not to wait a lifetime like Michael has.

Life happens to all of us.

Years will progress and if you don’t take advantage of the opportunities that are in front of you and go for your dreams; you may never get to them.

To your success,

Ernie “Living the Dream” Vargas
