| Remember the Terminator movie series starring Arnold Schwarzenegger? The storyline centered around a small group of renegade humans trying to stop machines from taking over the world. And it all started with an artificial intelligence computer program called Skynet. It makes for good sci-fi, but that could never happen in real life, right? Well, it’s looking a little more plausible every day. Have you heard of ChatGPT? It’s an online software that can write all kinds of stuff with just a few prompts. From a simple ad to a full-length book, the pages it writes are pretty impressive. But it doesn’t stop there. Need to write a complicated excel script? Just tell ChatGPT what to do and boom, your excel script is written. All you need to know is how to copy and paste the script into your spreadsheet! What’s next for ChatGPT? It looks like lawyers are in its crosshairs. From writing legal documents like wills to formulating arguments for court cases, ChatGPT is being put to the test. Will AI be able to replace an estate planning attorney? In my humble opinion, I don’t think so. At least not yet. There’s too much complexity and nuance. Input one small detail incorrectly and your heirs are gonna have a mess on their hands. And that’s the problem with technology. When we put all of our faith and trust into it, we stop using our greatest asset – our brains. It takes a real expert to do things right. Remember a couple of years back when Wall Street buyers were hitting the housing market? Discount brokers, Zillow, and Redfin were all trying to use AI to squeeze out us humans. And how did that turn out for them? Zillow lost over a half billion alone! The good news is that in this business of probate real estate, we are dealing with real-world problems which require creative thinking, brain power, and personal relationships to solve.
