I read an article this weekend about a woman from Chicago who has been battling for months to get a squatter out of her deceased mother’s home. She’s been trying to get him to leave since last September. The police won’t help her and the courts don’t seem to care. The city won’t even shut off the water to the house – she’s on the hook for a $1,300 water bill that keeps growing. The guy living in the house illegally calls himself a professional squatter. He also has a criminal record a mile long. Oh, and did I mention there are bullet holes in the windows? This is a sad reality for a lot of people who inherit houses through probate. They get lost in the probate process and people with nefarious motives take advantage of them. And it’s not just squatters. There are unscrupulous real estate professionals and sometimes even attorneys who prey on vulnerable families going through probate. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Unfortunately, there just aren’t enough honest, caring real estate investors and agents like you and me to help. I call my students “Probate Super Heroes” and that name is richly deserved. The world needs a hero. Are you willing to answer the call? To your success, Ernie “Justice League” Vargas | The Probate Fox |
