My Rambling Thoughts on the Facebook Outage

Last week facebook, instagram, and WhatsApp all went down for not just a few minutes, but for HOURS.
Now it didn’t really affect me personally – I don’t spend much time on social media. I don’t need Mark Zuckerberg force-feeding me information all day long – I prefer to think for myself.

But it did get me thinking about business. A lot of business owners and entrepreneurs were freaking out because their facebook ads were not being shown which resulted in a loss of income.

Some were complaining that they couldn’t run their facebook live events or communicate with their groups.
The ugly truth we all need to face is we don’t own any “real estate” on facebook. At best we are renting space there.

It can get shut down without any kind of warning and there’s nothing any of us can do about it.
So what’s the solution? Build business and marketing assets that YOU own. Be the master of your own future. The captain of your OWN ship.

Does that mean you shouldn’t be in spaces like facebook, youtube, or google? Of course not. There is plenty to be made by using those tools.

Just don’t become dependent on any one thing – especially if it’s something that you are just “renting”.
