Thrift Shop Payday

There’s a great story out of New Hampshire about a lady who bought a painting at a thrift shop for four bucks. She hung it on her wall for a while then stored it in a closet.

But then something unexpected happened. Someone noticed it in the background in a picture she posted on facebook. He told her she might have a small fortune sitting in her closet.

It turns out it was an original long-lost piece by N.C. Wyeth worth 191 grand. Talk about a huge payday from a $4 investment!

I wouldn’t be surprised if that painting came from a probate property. Too bad the person who dropped it off at the thrift shop didn’t realize how much it was really worth.

You’ll find all kinds of treasures in probate houses. And most of the time the heirs just want it cleared out. It’s just another problem they want solved so they can sell the house.

It reminds me of the time a seller told me there was 30 grand hidden somewhere in the house. They remember that their sister had told them about the money but couldn’t remember where it was.

So when you’re going through your next probate house, keep your eyes peeled. There might be an even bigger payday hiding in plain sight!

To your success,
Ernie “Thrift Shoppin” Vargas | The Probate Fox
